Coppell Girls Golf opened the 2026-27 season with a second-place team finish Wednesday at the Champions Circle Fall Invitational at The Golf Club at Champions Circle in Fort Worth.

The Cowgirls shot 360, finishing nine strokes behind Lewisville Marcus at 351. Coppell was also 59 strokes clear of third-place Denton Guyer, giving the Cowgirls a comfortable second-place finish in their first varsity tournament of the fall.

The bigger story came at the top of the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Adira Navarathinam won the tournament with a 78 (+7), while senior Sabrina Tam finished second with an 82 (+11), giving Coppell the top two individual finishers.

Navarathinam’s round was built on consistency. She recorded nine pars and a birdie and did not make worse than bogey on any hole. She shot 40 across holes 1-9 and 38 across holes 10-18.

It was another strong step for a golfer who already has postseason experience despite being only a sophomore. As a freshman last spring, Navarathinam was part of Coppell’s district championship team and shot 75-82 for 157 at the Region I Tournament as the Cowgirls finished third and qualified for state. She also competed at the UIL 6A State Tournament in San Antonio.

Tam gives Coppell another returning golfer with state-tournament experience. She was also part of last spring’s regional and state lineup and opened her senior season by taking second Wednesday. Her 82 included birdies on Nos. 4 and 13.

Joanna Ramirez shot 99 to finish seventh, and Mia Rivera finished eighth with a 101. With only four Coppell golfers listed in the tournament lineup, every score counted toward the team’s 360. There was no fifth score available to provide a drop score, making the nine-stroke margin to Marcus more notable.

Wednesday also offered the first look at the next version of a Coppell program that has spent the past several seasons competing deep into the postseason. The Cowgirls won the 2025 UIL Class 6A state championship, then returned to state last spring after winning district and finishing third at regionals. Coppell finished 10th at the 2026 state tournament.

With Navarathinam and Tam occupying the top two spots at Champions Circle, Coppell showed that some of that postseason experience remains at the front of this year’s lineup.

The Cowgirls return to competition Monday, Oct. 19, at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson.
